Our Approach to Coaching

When working with a professional coach…

Imagine that your coach is your co-pilot - you’re still flying, but you’re not alone.

Your coach is there to…

  • Help you determine where you want to go, why you care to go there, and choose the best way to get there - FOR you.

  • Be with you along the way, reflecting with you on what you experience on your journey, alerting you to signs and signals, and offering up tools as you venture onward.

  • Serve as a non-judgmental partner as you encounter motivations, ideas, and feelings and dig deeper into understanding both their source and impact on your challenges and achievements.

Our specialty is helping leaders reclaim choice - establishing a sense of intentionality with all actions and inactions.

We do this by supporting you to elevate your sense of:

  1. Self-awareness (seeing and understanding yourself in the moment and after the moment)

  2. Self-regulation (thoughtfully choosing what actions you take and how you behave vs. reacting on impulse)

How does it work?

Anchoring to a key tenet of the Co-Active Training Institute, which is based on the work of Carl Rogers and Humanistic Psychology, we believe that you (the person being coached) are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. This means there is no “fixing” to be done. It also implies that you have what it takes to accomplish what you want to accomplish. Your coach’s job is to help you uncover which parts of you need to be harnessed and maximized, and which parts need to be monitored or even regulated.

Think of your coach as a facilitator of your:

  1. Discovery

  2. Intentionality

  3. Accountability

… which results in a heightened sense of choice.

This reclaimed sense of choice can lead to improved quality of life, stronger relationships in and out of the workplace, greater meaning and fulfillment, and a more profound impact on what matters most to you.

Finding Words for Feelings and Behaviors

While not required, we often utilize one or more of the following self-assessment instruments to aid in coaching.

The perspectives offered through these instruments can help you to make sense of why you feel the way you do, gain insight into how you are perceived by others, raise your awareness of your natural tendencies, and define actions that are best suited for you to progress and develop.
